About Jasmine Mohidin

A career spent helping people develop

Jasmine Mohidin did not begin her career as a psychologist.

She began as a mathematics teacher in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town.

Since then, her work has moved through teacher development, public education, talent management, psychometric assessment, coaching and leadership development.

The roles changed. The central interest did not.

How do people learn, grow and turn what they are capable of into meaningful contribution?

Today, Jasmine is a registered Industrial and Organisational Psychologist, qualified educator and trained coach. Your Work Psychologist brings those different strands of her career together.

It began in the classroom

Jasmine taught mathematics at secondary and college level. The classroom gave her an early lesson that has stayed with her throughout her career.

Knowing is not the same as doing.

People can hear the same explanation, be given the same opportunity and still need different things in order to develop. Prior experience, confidence, motivation, practice and support all matter.

That is why development cannot simply be reduced to giving people more information.

The classroom became bigger

Jasmine's work moved from teaching young people to developing teachers, and then into public education at the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa.

Her work there was about making complex ideas more accessible and helping people participate more meaningfully in parliamentary processes.

She led the curriculum and content development of an NQF Level 4 qualification in Democracy, Active Citizenship and Parliamentary Services. She also helped develop educational resources for different audiences.

The subject matter had changed. The underlying work was familiar.

Understand where people are. Make the learning meaningful. Help them build the capability to participate and contribute.

From education to workplace psychology

As her experience broadened, Jasmine became increasingly interested in what happens after people learn.

Why can someone understand what good leadership looks like, yet struggle to demonstrate it in practice?

Why do capable people sometimes find a transition difficult?

What helps insight become action?

Those questions led her into Industrial and Organisational Psychology.

At Parliament, she later worked in talent management. Her responsibilities included psychometric assessment, developmental feedback, competency frameworks, Assessment and Development Centres, succession planning, career development, coaching and leadership development.

She helped establish Development Assessment Centre services and contributed to programmes for graduates, supervisors, managers, senior leaders and women in leadership.

This brought her close to the moments when people are asked to take on greater responsibility, exercise new judgement, influence others or contribute in unfamiliar ways.

Development in the real world

Jasmine's work now spans public and private sector environments.

Her consulting experience includes public service, local government, financial services, retail, mining, scientific research and travel.

She works with people at different stages of their working lives, from students and graduates to experienced specialists, managers and senior leaders.

Those experiences have reinforced something important.

Development does not happen in a vacuum.

People bring different strengths, histories, aspirations and obstacles. They also work inside different systems, cultures, relationships and expectations.

That is why Jasmine works collaboratively and contextually rather than beginning with a predetermined solution.

Sometimes people need knowledge. Sometimes they need practice, feedback or greater self-awareness. Sometimes the obstacle is partly in the environment around them. Often, more than one thing needs attention.

The work that became Your Work Psychologist

Your Work Psychologist brings together the educator, psychologist, coach and organisational practitioner.

The educator makes complex ideas understandable.

The psychologist looks for evidence, patterns and context.

The coach creates space for reflection, ownership and purposeful action.

And the practitioner keeps development connected to what people actually need to do and contribute at work.

Jasmine's approach is psychologically informed, ethically grounded and attentive to both the individual and the organisation.

It is not development for its own sake.

It is development that helps people translate insight into action and make a stronger contribution through their work.
